made in 96 hours for the 2024 gmtk game jam (theme was "built to scale")

you've found yourself in a dungeon, but the key to get out is way too heavy for you to carry. fortunately, you see a mysterious potion in the distance, and decide to take your chances...

this is an arcade-style roguelike platformer, where your only goal is to get as far as you can before the clock runs out. the clock gets shorter and shorter every time you enter a new floor, but you can get an upgrade to boost a stat of your choice. have fun!

(right now there's only 5 levels which get repeated every floor; i might update the game either before the deadline or after the jam to add more levels though)

controls (already ingame but i'll put them here too):

  • wasd/arrows to move
  • j/z to jump
  • k/x to dash (+ wasd/arrows to control the dash)
  • space to enter a door
  • (also you have to back up a bit before dashing through cracked blocks)

everything in this game was made by myself within the 96 hour time frame, including programming, design, art, music, sfx, etc. the only exception to this is the font, which is pixelify sans from google fonts.

Really loved the game feel, feel like the audio could have been mixed a bit better [and the clipping sound of the jump could have been faded out(unless thats somehow a me side issue in which case sorry)]? but like the game feel put me in this wonderful flow state for the past,... while so like thats really quite a good base you have well done

i'm glad you liked it :] i won't deny there's a couple rough patches but ty for trying it out

The controls are definitely fiddly and a bit unintuitive, but they work once you get used to it. Solid game.

you can dash through the walls? yeah, maybe put that in the itch directions.

mb, there was some important info i forgot to explain at first

Wanted to comment before I rate this or anything but I couldn't find a way out of the tutorial area. What are you meant to do to get out?

full route is get to the potion, get back to the start, pick up the key, and press space at the door

you need to dash up to get to the potion so hold up and press dash (someone else i know missed that too)

Oh my god, I figured out what my problem was. You can dash through the walls, but NOT if you start the dash already in contact with them. Hope this helps other people trying the game or you if you're still updating
